“From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free.” What does this even mean? This chant, which is screamed across hundreds of campuses in North America, and Canada, is a call for the genocide of the Jewish people.

Let’s take a look at some of the facts:

Israel’s population is 8,252,500, as of Rosh Hashanah 2014. Within that number, 4.2% (356,500) identify as “other,” which includes non-Arabs and, Christians. 20.7% (1,709,900) are Arabs, and 75% (6,186,100) are Jewish. If you didn’t see that number, I will tell it to you again, SIX MILLION ONE HUNDRED AND EIGHTY SIX THOUSAND ONE HUNDRED Jewish people live in the state of Israel, or “from the (Jordan) river to the (Mediterranean) sea.” By chanting this call for genocide, American students on college campuses are calling for another Holocaust. In addition, not only are they calling for the genocide of the Jewish people, but what about the other 24.9% of the population in Israel who are not Jewish?

These chanting students are coming from groups such as Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP), and the Muslim Student Association (MSA). Both SJP and MSA trace their roots to the Muslim Brotherhood a terrorist organization that founded Hamas. They both claim “Palestine” is under occupation by Israel, and they are not afraid to voice their opinions on campus. This chant is not the only thing that is done by these groups. SJP and MSA tend to have extreme demonstrations done on campus. Their efforts go far and beyond to delegitimize Israel, and her people.

I have been lucky to have never heard this genocidal chant during my four years as a college student, but I fear that, “From the river to the sea…” will be making its way to the University of Central Florida. The newest addition to the hundreds of Registered Student Organizations (RSO’s) on campus is Students for Justice in Palestine. As the President of UCF’s only pro-Israel organization, Knights for Israel, we have been lucky enough to not have to deal with SJP just yet. But with a campus that has 6,000 Jewish students, I won’t be surprised when SJP opens their mouths and chant for the genocide of my people, the Jewish people.
