The $10,000 Torah Challenge has been up and running for 3 weeks now. Not one single rabbi has even attempted to give an answer.
Judaism, passes thru the mother, merely because the rabbis say so, not because of what is written in the Torah!
The Torah clearly says it is permissible to marry Canaanite virgins. How Could God have told Moses, orally, that Judaism passes thru the mother and then made a written law which says it is okay to marry Canaanite virgins? Do you think it is possible the rabbis are lying?

A link to this Torah challenge has been sent to:

Prime Minister of Israel.
President of Israel.
The Jewish Agency.
The Chabad Movement.
The AISH Educational Foundation.
The Progressive Jewish Movement.
The Conservative Jewish Movement.

and countless other Jewish Institutions and Synagogues.
Not one single rabbi has responded. Why not?

I'd like to know the substantive or material difference between the phrases "pragmatic concerns" and "utilitarian considerations." Also, my mouth to Reuven Rivlen's ear today in a foreign press briefing at the Knesset, "What's the plan of peace that will work given that the Israeli citizenry has endured land for rockets?" He, a moderate Likudnik said that he had been searching one for 50 years and that when he figured out how to do it, he'd let me know. The Right is coming in again to form the coalition. Of this there is no doubt. Only, who will be Bibi's partners? The ones who support him in maintaining the status quo, that's who. Who really truly believes that Israel left, right or center can negotiate a real peace with the Arabs in Judea/Samaria & Gaza? Step up and give us your plan, damn it! Or, perhaps shut the hell up already and realize that conflict management is our own viable option for the present and as long as the Arabs DO NOT ACCEPT THE REALITY THAT THE JEWS ARE HERE TO STAY.

In the election later this month, it seems that Israelis need to coalesce around something much more central than those policies presently on offer by the great and the good. Otherwise, they may have to accept the awful consequences of being led in a direction that goes essentially nowhere.
And be prepared to pay politicians handsomely for that doubtful privilege as well.

What Israel really needs is some great national consensus, a united front upon which all parties and peoples can come together, knowing that, whatever else may happen, the result will always reflect well on Jewish values and define more closely the part Judaism and, indeed, all three of the monotheistic religions still have to play in contemporary societies the world over.

But where, in such a broad spectrum of political mindsets, can such unity of purpose be achieved?

Judging by the latest opinion polls and various straws in the wind, there is nothing that qualifies in this regard. It's all just a mish-mash of contending party machines and diametrically opposed agendas. No common ground exists and, certainly, none is likely to emerge after January 22 nd.

But, if this is indeed the case, then might not some external factor then enter into the collective Israeli consciousness? To continue on in much the same manner as before can lead only to the ultimate downfall of what it is to be a Jew. Or a Muslim. Or a Christian. Or anyone professing belief in a rational deity.

This does what?

It makes Israelis look good; something they have become much less adept at doing in recent years.

It makes the whole world look good also; a makeover not seen since records began.

It makes all the deaths and sacrifices of this century and the last seem more relevant and in a way never before thought possible.

It moves matters forward and away from a future presumed destined for some apocalyptic version of a Middle Eastern Armageddon. Or, worse still, the real thing itself.

Unless Judaism, Christianity and Islam are not to become merged into one amorphous mass of blind stupidity and hate, some radical yet rational element must become present in their understanding of this world in which we all live; the same one in which we all must die.

Better for us all to die then with something positive having been accomplished than to remain forever just 'blurred figures, far down the infinite corridor of time, dwindling towards oblivion.'

I have respected you since we met in 1970. When I interviewed you in may 1995 when the PLO and the Hamas were in negotiation, your clear answer was that if that PLO- Hamas alliance comes to fruition, there can be no deal. That PLO Hamas alliance is now a realty.
