It’s the most wonderful time of the year…well of course: it’s Comedy for Koby time!
In a week-long blitz, some of Hollywood’s brightest comedians are bringing audiences in Israel some great entertainment for a great cause — and couldn’t come at a better time. Proceeds from ticket sales support The Koby Mandell Foundation, which works on behalf of families of victims of terror and those who have tragically suffered the loss of a loved one. Though, to be honest, it’s hard to imagine that anyone reading this has not yet heard of this bi-annual, much-loved benefit spearheaded by the incomparable Avi Liberman.
This writer attended the first of back-to-back shows in Jerusalem, apparently a bit ‘tamer’ than the upcoming one in Tel Aviv. Maybe so, but the jokes rolled in one after another and had the audience rolling in laughter the majority of the time.
At the end of the show, as is Comedy for Koby tradition, the four comedians got on stage together and took questions from the audience. This is always a treat; seeing them interact with each other, and tackling questions from the most basic to some real thought-provoking ones.
When the performers were asked if they had considered backing out of the program at any point due to the security situation in Israel, there was not a one with any hesitation on that. I hope they understand how much that meant to us; and I don’t think one person in that sold out audience took it for granted.
If by some chance they aren’t sold out, you have two more chances to catch this great program: Saturday night in Gush Etzion, and Sunday night in Tel Aviv. And if you missed it? Don’t despair… I have no doubt Comedy for Koby will continue to be a wonderful bi-annual tradition for a long time to come.
