Israel’s emergence in and about the mid 20th century is a remarkable story, a testament to the survival and tenacity of a people faced with almost constant adversity across millennia of time and much of human history.
But will this story ever have a happy ending or is it destined to be one of permanent conflict and endless struggle?
For some stories to move on, they must have their next chapter fairly well outlined and standing by, ready for transmission. Otherwise they remain locked on the same old page, telling of events and circumstances in a manner much too reminiscent of a broken record.
After 65 years and more, it must surely be time to leave off playing the present track and skip over to a new one. And, as with all the very best stories, the majority of listeners would prefer them to have a surprise ending, something with a twist in the tail.
