thank you for your lecture on opia. you left out cloudopia, where you try to find someone's street address from 30,000 ft. that seems to be your malady, Mr. Adler. Rabbi Gordis, along with 8 million fellow israelis are not too close to see, smell, taste, and touch what you can only imagine from your ol' kentucky home. why you decided to pin a target on the Rabbi's back in writing this blog instead of stating your comments on his blog, seems to smell of a hidden agenda. Rabbi Gordis is a private citizen who conveys his personal views and does not represent or pretend to advocate for any group. others may agree or disagree with his opinions; but you, sir, are trying to elevate the Rabbi by attempting to knock him down with imcomplete facts, something I would not expect from a librarian.

How interesting that you deliberately left out the part where the Likud platform says:

"The Palestinians can run their lives freely in the framework of self-rule, but not as an independent and sovereign state. Thus, for example, in matters of foreign affairs, security, immigration and ecology, their activity shall be limited in accordance with imperatives of Israel's existence, security and national needs."

This is hardly problematic in terms of the state problem. The main concern that the Likud platform articulates is the security of the state of Israel. Nothing near the quest for "Palestine from the river to the sea..." Meshaal spelled out in his speech.

And the fact that Bibi has articulated a belief in 2 states for two peoples runs directly contrary to what you have written.

I am actually quite optimistic. If Israel continues to settle on just the other side of the green line, it will obliterate the 1949 board but not the opportunity for peace. Peace can be achieved once the Palestinians realize that time is against them. Every year that passes, they lose more and more. That is the only thing that makes peace possible.
