On this day, in 2004, the site that would later become the behemoth social network many of us use today was born.

Mark Zuckerberg little idea is now connecting more than one seventh of the world population. It was on February 4, 2004, Facebook was created by Mark Zuckerberg with his Harvard College roommates and fellow students Eduardo Saverin, Dustin Moskovitz and Chris Hughes. It’s a perfect example of how a little college idea can changed the world. Not only Facebook is connecting billions of people across the globe but it’s been responsible for major world event like Arab Spring.

An inspiration to almost all the Silicon Valley startup, Facebook now stands as an empire that includes almost all aspect of personal connectivity. With an impressive shopping list of WhatsApp, Instagram, and Oculus VC, Mark Zuckerberg now controls all forms of social networking. It is almost scary to see how such a socially awkward person controls the social life of more than a billion people. With over a 50 billion dollar stock trading in US stock market now, this company is a major player in mighty US economy. The most important achievement of Facebook is proving that you don’t need a professional environment to achieve big things, it showed the world how bunch of guys in their hoodies can make great changes in the world.

A lot can be said about this extraordinary company, but to keep this article brief, I will just say that it doesn’t matter — that whatever Facebook is doing now or whatever they will do tomorrow, Facebook will always be remember as brilliant startup that showed people that it doesn’t matter what your idea is, but what matters is how you implement it and with who you implement it with. The reason Facebook became so successful is not because it’s a social networking site, hell…!! even Myspace was one. It was because it saw the brilliant minds like Sean Parker, a guy known as “ bad boy of Silicon Valley” and Peter Thiel, former grandmaster of Stanford with a keen interest in out of box creations worked on this project almost since the beginning , and with Silicon Valley at the door, Facebook got the perfect recipe to make an amazing company. Already a major global player it will very exciting to see where this 12-year-old company will go next.
