My name is Ilana Stein and I am currently a sophomore at the Abraham Joshua Heschel School in Manhattan. From a young age, my Jewish identity has played a major part in my life. In addition to attending Jewish day school, I spent my summers at Camp Young Judaea and in Israel. My mom was born and raised in Israel, and most of my family lives there. I believe that one day I will join my Israeli family by enlisting in the IDF and making aliyah. This will enable me to demonstrate my love and dedication towards the Jewish state. I feel strongly connected to the historical aspects of Israel, and also to the modern, vibrant culture. I long for the day when the Israeli-Palestinian conflict is resolved- a day where the Israelis do not face terror.
