Dr Magnus Norell, a Swedish political scientist, is adjunct scholar at the Washington Institute for Near East Policy and a Senior Policy Advisor at the European Foundation for Democracy (EFD) in Brussels. Dr Norell is associate Director of Studies in Terrorism, Organized Crime and Middle East Politics at the intelligence and strategy consulting firm, Infosphere AB; and security & technology analyst at the SÄKTEK foundation.
Dr Norell played a key role in setting up back channel contacts between Israel and Hezbollah that laid the ground for Israel’s peaceful withdrawal from southern Lebanon in 2000.
