That is a similar issue with the media in the US. They view themsleves as centrists or moderates, as they do obama. True Americans view obama and the media as extreme leftists.

There's a general bias in a majority of the western liberal media, where they claim to be centrist, but are really left of center, while anything that is center-right or right of center, is portrayed by that media as right wing, without allowing for a centrist place for the right.
This mind set takes place in Israel as well, as you so aptly pointed out.
