A moral position has to be able to take into account that reality is never all one sided. Both Palestinians and Israelis have claim to what once was the Palestine Mandate. You may think that drawing the line at the '49 armistice lines is just because both sides are opposed to it, but with only slight consideration you should see that is not the solution. True Israel was willing to make that concession in 1948, but circumstances change with the times as well. After suffering Arab aggression in '67 Israel of today is not willing to go back to those lines. We no longer have any obligation to cede our rights to Judea and Samaria. Hebron will not remain judenrein in 2012 because of Arabs massacred us in 1929. Knee jerk responses, even if motivated by a naive sense of right, are not moral positions.

James, you began by quoting Ghandi. Ghandi stated that the Jews - man, woman and child - should have willingly offered themselves up to the butchers knife, during the Holocaust. According to this logic, the kids and teachers at the school in Newtown should have done the same thing...I'm very curious to know what your view on this is. I would also like to expand upon Jay's point in regards to the evils and repulsiveness of moral relativism and say that if you are going to dabble in moral relativism, at least base your relativism on facts. The Moahmmed Al Dura case was proven to be a fraud in a French court of law. During the last Gaza conflict, media outlets were caught red handed posting pictures of so called Israeli atrocities in Gaza when in actual fact the pictures were from Syria. There are thousands of other cases of fraud, fabrication and lies. Do your home work buddy.

James, you touch upon many points here. But you derail your entire argument with your concluding paragraphs. After all your talk about the horrors of senseless murder of children, in the end you flee from the demand of ACCOUNTABILITY.

To compare the Arab use of children-murder for political purposes with the not-100%-successful Israeli attempts to bend over backwards to avoid bombing civilians in Gaza is immoral. You blur the edges of your argument, and threaten to make your whole posting meaningless.

Unfortunately, this world is filled with individuals, groups and nations that coldy and callously use child-murder for their own bloody purposes. Until thinking people call these killers to task for their crimes - and stop trying to shift the blame to the victims, by placing the actions of those who are trying to defend themselves from such aggression on an equal footing with those of the perpetrators - evil will continue to win out.

James, open your eyes. It's time to work for the the solution rather than serving to perpetuate the problem.
