Has the the plot here been carved in stone without any possibility of deviation, revision or even a surprise ending?
Why should everything be so downright predictable, so devoid of all originality and intuition?
These recent fatalities in Qalandiya, together with the many injuries sustained, are a case in point. They conform to a fixed and fundamental dichotomy that exists between Palestinians and Israelis, a cause and effect scenario, a knock-down, drag-out fight to the death without any rhyme or reason except that it has always been this way.
Then it must be high time that another way was found. The present system has been in operation for nearly seven decades; it seems to have no purpose other than to maintain itself in being and generally make matters so much worse than they already are.
And if matters are indeed getting worse, then what does that say about the rest of us, people not so closely engaged in this conflict and thus able to view the overall situation with some objectivity and to take, perhaps, a more balanced approach?
Either we want to close out this conflict in the best and the fastest manner possible or we must be content to have it continue on indefinitely, an insult to all of human intellect and a damning testimony of our inability to deal effectively with such crises whenever they arise.
