Thanks Marc, for giving some additional background. No question I paint in broad strokes here, with the understanding that on the ground the situation is more complex and fluid. Sharansky was not necessarily a pluralist either, but he has moderated considerably on matters involving the religious streams.

Also Rabbi, why would you think that having lived through communism these Russian olim would embrace liberalism or socialist policies? I guess as the saying goes "Socialism looks beautiful… when you are rich".

Its a complicated topic, I sometimes wonder about all the work I did, but on the other hand there are so many wonderful former Russians living here, including a a young woman whose family had left Israel but she came back and is serving with my daughter, who we love hosting in house. So you take the good with the bad, the real problem is no one ever did the outreach work to the community to work with them. Also keep in mind that Sharansky was the first successful Russian politician here, and he is not exactly a leftist. Recent studies because of the age of the Aliyah and there low birth rate show their impact dropping and that is one of the reasons Lieberman is looking to return "home" to the likud.

so just to be clear rabbi, you're blaming Russian immigrants for the stalled "peace" process? hmm… blaming immigrants, not a very liberal thing to do, as you claim to be. Would you blame Hispanics for eventually bringing Republicans to power (hypothetically of course). Shame on you! You may be a Rabbi, but you are most definitely not a leader.
