Technological advance has always been stimulated by warfare. Necessity is indeed the Mother of Invention and nowhere is this more so than in the need to prevail militarily against forces with similar but opposing necessities in mind.

In these days, modern conflict has the capability to reach inside the homes and workplaces of almost everyone on the planet. While the oversight this produces may now confine battlefields to within certain limits, it cannot remove the reasons why such contention is there in the first place.

But, if necessity really is the mother of invention and war has been the main beneficiary of her labours so far, then why hasn't she invented a way to end war itself. Surely the maternal instincts aroused by so many disputes of this nature must seek out ways to remedy such matters.

There again, perhaps she has.
