A large scale Israeli offensive (similar to 2008) against Gaza would bring short-term reprieve fo Israel’s citizens but would also mean:

Long term strengthening of Al Qaeda and extremist Salafist organizations in Gaza... the election of the Muslim Brotherhood to Egyptian leadership has done that.

Justification for Palestinian drive for statehood in the UN... Obama is paritally responsible for that by insisting on a settlement freeze that gives the Palestinians veto power over negotiations.

Help for the international boycott and divestment movement against Israel... at this point, the issue is not the Palestinians but the existence itself of the Jewish state.

Hurt Israel’s relations with the EU... Destined to decline as the EU becomes Eurabia.

Divert attention away from the conflict Syria thus helping Assad....both Assad and the opposition blame Israel anyway.

Hurt Israel’s relations with Egypt and Jordan... relations are already brain dead.

'These ae some of the questions which those of us in Israel who are looking fo a long-term solution to our security problems in Gaza must ask ourselves.'

Ask as many questions as you like. But do try very hard to find some answers. Otherwise, the whole sorry mess will continue to spin its wheels much as before and, as in all of the past 65 years, no long-term solution of any description will come riding to the rescue.
