Excellent article. Keep up the good work. Unlike some of the bizarrely obnoxious commenters here, you show great sensitivity, e.g. by choosing, for the moment, not to wear your tefillin at the Kotel. It is beyond perverse that anyone could somehow find a woman wrapped in a prayer shawl while praying to be offensive. And frankly any "man" who notices is certainly not all that "frum" in the first place.

This stupid law is one of many examples of how the Israel legal system has chosen to mollify a very small group of fanatics within certain communities rather than apply normative law to them for fear of their terrorism behavior.

just as I meant to say Hannah, not Naomi, Glenn meant to say the orthodox community , not the jewish people. The kotel is a public place, it is not the private property of the orthodox community. the rabbis say they are the descendants of the judges, deborah was a judge, and like joan of arc, she even led men into battle.

this whole thing is a political battle, it has nothing to do with whether bonna is a sincere jew or not. the rabbis excommunicated spinoza, now they are having this woman arrested. the point is, you believe that homosexuality is forbidden, yet any homosexual can walk into the kotel and pray, so why can't this woman walk into the kotel and pray? even christians and buddhists walk in an pray, so why not her?

Ed... nor I you for Dror (though I'm guessing the account is just a straw man for Dror to promote himself without appearing to promote himself).

Actually, the way I understand it, Martin Luther wasn't Jewish or feigning to honor the covenant at Sinai all the while breaking it as Bonna is... so, no... I wouldn't compare him with Korah.

didn't realize you were the spokesman for the jewish people....do you speak for all the reform, conservative and orthodox jews ? by you logic martin luther and the pilgrims should also be compared to korach. where is it written that it is forbidden for women to pray at the western wall ? rabbis are marrying homosexuals and you are upset that this woman wants to pray in a public place?this is a crime?

I have to agree with Glenn, her actions are more in keeping with Korah and not Samuel's mother... who's words were not heard. Did she take the robes of Eli, pray as he prayed, sacrifice as he did?

Bonna forces pluralism, forces her democratic rights as opposed to those things granted by God. And that definitely is more like Korah than the mother of Samuel.

Concerning the last point... comparing your timeline to Dror ben Ami's, I think most people would see you as the straw man...

This article should be distributed all over.
We should have every respect for these outstanding women who by their presence despite constant harrassment are doing what we should all be doing as traditional jewish women. We in Israel are no better than those around us whose abuse, control and deligitimisation of their women, we detest. No representation in religious political parties is the tip pf the iceberg Heres to new beginnings.

Equality in not merely the adoption of traditionally male rituals, but is also the choice to affirmatively abandon female privilege -- most feminists I know do nothing but insult and reject men, all of whom they regard as unworthy of them. And of course, it's the fault of men that they're still single. I might have more sympathy for feminists in religion if I felt that they rejected this hypocrisy.
