While this seems "reasonable" it isn't.

For instance one of the person that comments here sounds reasonable here, but on a facebook page named cooperative confederation between Israel and Palestine spew antisemitic drivel of the kind "Jews cause 9/11" and "Jews out of the Middle East"... Why do you think Israelis would trust this?

Yes there should be peace. But as long as Arabs do not recognize the right of Israel to be a Jewish state there won't be.

This conflict has gone on far too long and effects us all on a global scale. A resolution, such as the Israeli Palestinian Confederation goes beyond a 1 state or a 2 state plan. It promotes dialogue between Israeli's and Palestinians in small ways and in big ways. A grand plan is not always the best way to resolve an issue, sometimes a conflict resolution can be much better put in place by small steps of communication. This conflict is overlapped with thousands of issues and if the layers can start to be resolved one at a time, than there can be progress on a larger scale.

Mr. Avesar,

Thank you for your thoughtful discussion about possible solutions. I believe that a Confederation would be a workable solution to the continued conflict.

To get to that point, though, will require more focus on changing the paradigm and framework of discussion. The idea of two separate states representing each group may have seemed like an ideal situation seventy years ago. However, as you suggest, with globalization, many of our previous borders (tangible and intangible, physical and idealistic) have been transgressed. It is time to upgrade to Middle East 2.0, which includes less focus on borders and more on integration and unity. I may be an idealist, but I believe we have much more in common than what separates us.

Good luck.
