The Israelis may indeed be 'suckers' if they don't latch on to the 'plan' as outlined here. How else do you think this conflict is going to be resolved? By more and more violence? By whoever has the biggest army, the greater numbers, the heaviest club? Such methods have been tried on many, many occasions. And none of them have ever worked out very well. Or at all.

So, at some time and maybe very soon, there comes a point where we all have to try something different, something that will work.

It's really quite simple when you THINK about it. But that's always been the problem, hasn't it?
No one thinks any more; they just react and, because the situation has been around for so long, reactions have come to be accepted as a far easier and simplistic answer than actually thinking the matter through to a resolution.

But, as the old saying goes, we live and learn. Well, let's hope we can do so in this case.

So the missing option is that Israel should commit war crimes and mass atrocities in Gaza in contravention of treaties that we have signed? I don't think that this is a real option and don't believe that this is something that the Israeli Government is considering.

I spent the last several years arguing with the nastiest anti-Israel activists around. They believe in an Israel that acts like that too. Luckily you're both wrong.

@Arieh Kovler:

Well, you sound quite logical. Westernized, rational, cool, calm and collected.

But my friend: you are living in the wrong neighborhood.

How nice. Let's use restraint. 14 thousand rockets fired at our towns and cities aren't enough for you to open your eyes.

We are in the Middle East. The Middle East does not play by your sanitized, kosher Western rules. They play by testing the mettle of a nation, and seeing just how far they can push. The farther they can get, the better - and then they just keep pushing for more.

Your solution - sit on our hands and accept the pummeling until we can come up with a better idea - is the real trap here. We have been playing the game according to your rules for too long.

Our neighbors respect certain things: clear lines, fast action, and no fear of ramifications on our part. Were we to function like the real Middle Easterners that we are, we would bring this conflict to a close. Quickly, and with a minimum amount of loss of life on all sides.

Let us draw a line in the sand. "Hamas: you claim to be in control of Gaza. So here goes: we are going to give you 24 hours to make sure that no more missiles are fired on our citizens. If, after 24 hours, even one more missile is shot at us - we are going to remove and disable the lion's share of your operational infrastructure. We know exactly where your command and control centers are located. We know where you industry, power sources, water, and major economic centers are. We will remove a large part of them from the map using our air force and its superior bombing skills.

"No more surgical strikes against your leaders' lives. And no need for costly and lengthy ground wars. We will target your entire leadership, even it is hiding, cowardlike, in the midst of your citizens. That fact is now YOUR problem, not ours; and you will be saddled with total responsibility for the harm that you will have brought upon yourselves."

That is what we have to say. We can tell anyone and everyone we like. But: we must be absolutely prepared to do what we say, if even a single more missile is launched from anywhere in Gaza. By anyone podunk group, Islamic or not - it doesn't matter what long fancy name the group has. If anyone fires missiles, Hamas and the entire country will pay. They will lose the functioning of their society in one swoop.

Were we to do this, our Arab neighbors would understand that they are no longer dealing with a bunch of Jews cowering in some village in Eastern Poland. They are now facing the Jewish nation in its God-given land. And we won't put up with any more threats.

Do this, and the rest of their brethren will fall in line very quickly. Because they are waiting for us to stand up for ourselves. There may be some costly action in the beginning, but our cousins throughout this part of the world will get the message very fast. Mess with us and you will pay right away.

There. That is the missing option. The one that all your grand thoughts and cool precision analysis could not come up with. Get out of yourlousy box, Arieh. It's too confining there, and we are no longer inside it anyway.
