An astonishing item appeared in the Associated Press report from Jerusalem today. It described a disturbing (at least from my viewpoint) letter sent around the world.

Entitled “Israeli Intellectuals to World Jewry: End the Occupation”, it was signed by 470 of Israel’s brightest artists, scholars and diplomats including authors David Grossman and Amos Oz, Nobel Prize winner Daniel Kahneman and 20 of our former Israeli ambassadors.
They represent an organization called “Save Israel, Stop Occupation” and in their letter they demanded an immediate end to control of territories won in the 1967 war.

The director of the group, Jessica Montrell, stated that Israel’s military rule “harms Israeli society and it harms Jews around the world”.

I am astounded and regret that no member of our government has commented on the letter which was published in world-wide press media. Our Foreign Ministry spokesman, Emmanuel Nahshon, declined to comment. The letter could not have been better written if it had been signed by Palestinian Arab leaders. For Israeli Jews, the letter is a disgrace.

We are all entitled to our personal opinions and can freely express them publicly in our local media, but to present such a letter to the entire world of Jews, Muslims and Christians is shameful. We need not wash our dirty laundry in public. It’s time to end the “End”.

It is time for sanity and caution. We may win wars but we are losing battles. And it is not the fault of our military. The fault and the blame falls upon our “intellectuals”.

Citizens of Israel who are unhappy with our government and its policies are free to emigrate to other countries where their criticism may be more welcomed.

Such a letter is a dangerous weapon placed in the hands of our enemies who may joyfully proclaim to the world, “Look ! Even 20 Israeli ambassadors, diplomats representing Israel, have signed this letter”.

And still, as the hours pass, our hasbara is silent, our government is sleeping, our enemies are rejoicing, and our “intellectuals” are demanding an end to our “occupation” of historical Biblical Jewish territory.

The old saying about ourselves, “Jews are their own worst enemies” is not far from the truth.

Now it is time for the good citizens of our great nation to rise up and demand an end to the “End”.
