I'm certainly not a Torah scholar by any stretch of the imagination, however, I do recall a teaching by an American rabbi (maybe 10 years ago) warning that the Torah does not encourage us to hold political office in the lands of the goyim – and only the most righteous should be holding any office of authority among the Jews in our homeland. We have neither situation right now, but I believe our own land is where we should be focusing our energies and talents. In the galut, Jews in high profile positions will be the first to fall – as the blame for the world's troubles always rests on our broad shoulders.
