And those "agreements" were such a great success weren't they? Withdrawal from Gaza, Olso, etc…they all brought Israel a step closer to peace and got everyone to instantly love us. Pretty scary that this guy is a member of Israel's "intelligence" community. No wonder Israel is in such a pickle

Everybody loves us when we're giving things away. But as Peres and Olmert found out, the isolation returns higher than before when you have to go to war to mitigate the damages of your peace initiatives. Long before settlements were an issue, noted right wing fanatics Abba Eban and Golda Meir noted how the world loves to stand with dead Jews, but Jews were not going to die just so they could deliver a nice eulogy, and that we'd rather the world's condemnations than their condolences. No, everything is not fine. But the leap from there to "the entire problem is settlements" is ridiculous.

In complete synch with diplomatic isolation is our willingness to come to agreements with the Palestinians. Surprisingly, whenever we are willing to come to agreements (or are perceived as willing to be), our diplomatic isolation evaporates. Whenever we are stuck in our mantras that there is no partner, the isolation starts again. Obviously then, it has nothing to do with us, only with those pestering humans out there who think they know what really is going on here. Until they understand, we'll just have to suffer. We, of course, aren't going to change. Why should we? Everything is just fine. Or is it?

What I have found to be the most unbelievable thing about J-Street is that we have never heard of anyone who has quit and said "Wait, this isn't what I was told this was going to be."

I guess all those involved – from the actual founders to those who just signed petitions and lent their names – knew from the start where their agenda was going.

'… Elsner’s assertion that Israel’s diplomatic problem in one word is settlements ignores the isolation that preceded the settlements. It ignores the increased isolation that followed attempted freezes and withdrawals. And it ignores the many other reasons people condemn Israel.

Elsner’s implication that people who defend Israel’s policies are shameful and that Israel’s position lacks intellectual honesty? In a word: projection.'
