Tzvi, I don't claim to know how Begin would feel about the results of the Likud primary.

I have absolutely no animus toward anyone simply because of where they live- be it in Efrat or anywhere else in the Judea and Samaria. Dov. Thanks for your comment. Jabotinsky's position on the place of Arab citizens in the Jewish state he envisioned is a fascinating subject which, sadly, isn't given enough attention.

I do not deny that the Likud primary was free and fair. Nor do I deny the right and responsibility of the members of the Likud to choose their own candidates. In the article, I argue that the vision put forth by these candidates endangers Israel's future as a Jewish and democratic state. I also argue that moderates should take back the mantle of nationalism. Am I smarter or more moral than they are? Probably not. But just as they have the right to vote, I have the right to write.

You're correct. There aren't 20 Feiglins in the Likud. However, his inclusion- and the exclusion of two senior ministers- illustrates the right-ward shift in the party. Yes, many current MK's who support Greater Israel were simply re-elected. Hotovely and Regev are the first that come to mind. But in the absence of a few influential moderates who had close ties to Netanyahu, their influence will be considerably more significant in the next Knesset.

The author of this article has no problem working at Brandeis with the brother of the head of Islamic Jihad. And, in addition, the FBI caught this man on tape agreeing to work for his brother.

But Feiglin, a true Jewish Patriot, is supposedly a bad guy.

Paul Gross, "what is best for the Jewish state" does not include turning the West Bank into another Gaza. We've done Land-for-Peace with the Palestinians and it doesn't work; we were getting out of the WB when the Second Intifada was initiated; we've made numerous end-of-conflict offers and the bottom line is that the revanchist Palestinians don't want an end of conflict–they want Israel replaced with Palestine-from-the-River-to-the-Sea, and I suspect the strongly right-wing tilt of Likud's election reflects that fact. Voters don't want more starry-eyed through-Western-eyes Beilin Dreams — they want politicians who can see the reality of Palestinian incitement and revanchism clearly, and can respond to it appropriately.

The expulsion from Gaza and the expulsion of Judea and Samaria was an anti-democratic and immoral process whereby the political means overtook any responsibility to the people affected. True it was voted on and the courts made a decision, but it was quickly shown that they never wanted to seriously deal with harm done to the residents in Gaza. They were stripped of the normal and accepted rights of citizens all in the name of what was cynically called "peace". It will remain a stain on Israeli's democracy and judiciary. You can commit genocide these days in the name of peace. That isn't the goal of the Israeli left, but they are more than willing to be complicit with those who will fight the war against their political foes to that extreme.
