Ken Livingstone was on BBC News Channel at 4.20pm today (5 April).
He held up this article from the Jewish News:
He used it is his defence, as if it was a Jewish News editorial.
He said: “This is last week’s edition of the Jewish News. It says it would be wrong to expel me for those remarks. It goes on to say I was misquoted. It congratulates me for drawing attention to the Holocaust because a lot of kids are growing up not knowing that. I can’t recall the number of Jewish people who come up to me on the street and say “Don’t these MPs know their history, we know what you said is true.”
The article he held up is here (It has been updated to reflect the Constitutional Committee’s decision, the headline is slightly different).
It was not a Jewish News editorial.
It was not even written by a Jewish News reporter.
It was a blog by David Wolchover.
And like all Jewish News blogs (mine included!) it carries this disclaimer: “This post has been contributed by a third party. The opinions, facts and any media content here are presented solely by the author, and The Times of Israel assumes no responsibility for them”.
How utterly deceitful of Ken Livingstone to imply that a blog somehow represents a Jewish Community view ………
