Proud to be Complicit!
by Batoul El Mehdar on Wednesday, 19 December 2012 at 02:05 ·.
My response to Maikel Nabil 'Making peace by going to Israel'. His visit, he falsely claims, is a message from the Egyptian 'peace' community. I'd like to learn more about 'this' community which equates peace with complicity. Would be grateful if someone knows a way to send this to him. Nabil's article can be found on here: http://blogs.timesofisrael.com/let-there-be-peace/.

Proud to be complicit!

Maikel Nabil, an Egyptian ‘Activist’ and supposedly, as well, a nominee for the next Noble ‘Peace’ Prize, is happy to inform us of his visit to ‘Israel’ and Palestine. His visit, or so he claims, is to make ‘peace’. It took me a while to try and understand what does ‘peace’ actually mean to Maikel Nabil.

Mr. Nabil,

I’d like to inform you that your visit comes exactly a month after operation pillar of defense where 103 innocent civilians were martyred. Is that what you call peace?

I’d like to inform you that the university that you’re scheduled to speak at-Hebrew university- has built its Mount Scopus campus on occupied territories, illegal under international law and in grave violation of the 4th Geneva Conventions. Is that what you call peace?

I’d like to inform you that your visit comes 3 years after operation cast lead where 1400+ innocent civilians were martyred. Hebrew university has offered special assistance to its students who served in this operation. Is that what you call peace?

I’d like to inform you that equality precedes peace. Hebrew university discriminates against Palestinian students and visitors. It, for instance, demands police issued ‘character reference’ from Palestinian visitors, but not from Jewish visitors. Is that what you call Peace?

I’d like to inform you that one of Hebrew University’s board of governor’s member is also the chairman of the Board of Elbit System, an arms company whose weapons are used against innocent civilians. Is that what you call peace?

I’d like to inform you that the second university that you’re scheduled to speak at-Tel Aviv university- is proud of conducting 55 research projects with the Israeli army. Is that what you call peace?

I’d like to inform you that Tel Aviv university is located on the ruins of the Palestinian village, Sheikh Muwanis. Are you proud, as they are, to speak on a campus built on a destroyed Palestinian village? Is that what you call peace?

I’d like to inform you that Union for Jewish students (UJS) serves as Israel’s propaganda machine. In the UK, for example, the UJS, in 2007, was recruiting volunteers to serve in Sar-El, an IDF unit. Is that what you call peace?

There is so much more that i’d like to inform you about. I’d like to inform you about the history of Palestine, I’d like to inform you about Al-Nakba, I’d like to inform you about Al-Naksa, I’d like to inform you about Sabra and Chatila, about Jenin, about Dair Yassin. I’d like to inform you about human rights, about racism, discrimination and apartheid.

Mr. Nabil i’d like to inform you that you are in no position to speak about making ‘peace’. If you really want to side with justice, side with the oppressed, and as you say live without ‘violence, racism, and walls’, renounce your ridiculous statements, support the resistance, and end your complicity in Apartheid. Unless that is done, then do not speak of making ‘peace' and certainly do not speak of yourself as a human right’s defender and activist because, in actuality, you’re anything but that.
