You are quite naive that they will "eventually turn to support real Palestinian interests" since neitehr they nor the majority of Palestinians and Arabs alike aren't quite eager to realise these interests. In fact, they don't even know about them.

Ross, It's fascinating how people can be descendants of a civilization that had become extinct thousands of years ago. Neat trick! Oh…and since the Jews of the modern State of Israel were referred to as Palestinian well before the Arabs took-on the name, does that mean, we Jews are also descendants of an extinct civilization? Ravi, the entire "Palestinian narrative" is laughable. The real narrative is that Jews, who lived in the land before Christ was born and before Mohammed was even a gleam in his father's eye, were relegated to second-class citizenship in their own land by the Muslim invasion of the 7th century. Arabs are not indigenous to the Mediterranean Basin, but to the Arabian Peninsula. That's why they're called ARABS.
The entire Arab-Israeli conflict is based on the failure of the Arab League to destroy Israel in 1948, because Israel's continued existence and progress shames them. Other than as a public relations ploy, there is no "Palestinian-Israeli conflict", except as part of the real, Arab-Israeli conflict.
Even "Palestinian" leaders have admitted that "there is no such thing as a Palestinian people".

“The Palestinian people do not exist. The creation of a Palestinian state is only a means for continuing our struggle against the state of Israel for our Arab unity. In reality today there is no difference between Jordanians, Palestinians, Syrians and Lebanese. Only for political and tactical reasons do we speak today about the existence of a Palestinian people, since Arab national interests demand that we posit the existence of a distinct ‘Palestinian people’ to oppose Zionism.

“For tactical reasons, Jordan, which is a sovereign state with defined borders, cannot raise claims to Haifa and Jaffa, while as a Palestinian, I can undoubtedly demand Haifa, Jaffa, Beer-Sheva and Jerusalem. However, the moment we reclaim our right to all of Palestine, we will not wait even a minute to unite Palestine and Jordan.”

Even Yasser Arafat, himself an Egyptian, born and bred, claimed, in his official biography that, "If there is any such thing as a Palestinian people, it is I, Yasser Arafat, who created them".

Support for such "causes" is laughable… and pathetic.

Yes some of the examples youve given are laughable, just like the Israeli claim that "God gave us this land" is laughable…. but the reality of Palestinians being ethnically cleansed from their homes and continually oppressed, is anything but laughable.

Very nice article, but I have one point I'd like to make: The original Zionist settlers were not Holocaust survivors; the Holocaust had not happened yet. From what I've learned the Dreyfus affair was the primary mobilizing force at the time.
