They say that the land was conquered by them, not that it was theirs originally. They say that people lost their lives in conquering the land, not defending it.

Just the other day I Tweeted words to this effect: "Imagine Middle East prosperity: Arab terrorists don't invest billions in trying to destroy Israel: use the cash for schools, health, aid etc, and Israel needn’t spend billions on defense, bomb shelters etc, and used the cash for mutual benefit of everyone in area. A peace dream."

Thank you for providing such useful and even important information about lost opportunities. I was completely unaware of the cooperative industrial zones and the wasted greenhouses and I bet most of those journalists who castigate Israel are as ignorant as I am about the context in which harsh events occur and the reasons for many actions. These facts should be made known more widely.

Hey, psalm, I've missed you. Where you been? You had me worried.
Anyway, let's see what you think of this.
I made it especially for you.

I think it fair to say that the current Israeli and Palestinian positions seem fated to drift still further apart once these latest developments at the UN become fully established. But the deed is now done; the die is cast and nothing can reverse the decision, no matter what amount of pressure, threats or just plain cussedness is visited upon the scene in times to come.

So, with the matter settling ever deeper into the morass of unfulfilled hopes and cynical neglect that has always been its lot, what lifeline now, if any, can be thrown to effect a last-minute rescue?

Minimum characteristics of a standard-issue lifeline:

It must be of sufficient length to reach those victims who find themselves in mortal danger.
It must be strong enough to withstand all the strains of rescue, the long haul back to safety.
It must be easily secured about persons found in need of salvage from whatever deadly peril has befallen them.
It must be kept in constant readiness and located as near as possible to any potential source of harm.

And these specifications are of the most basic kind.

Then try to imagine the lifeline required for pulling millions of people out from the clutches of a 65 year-old whirlpool that has already claimed the lives of thousands and seems destined to proceed in much the same fashion for many more years ahead.

And, if you can't, then this might help.

The truce is worthless and gives time for Hamas to re-arm, another major failure of Israel's impotent and incompetent secular , loser leadership.
Israel proved to their enemies how quickly the lap dogs in Jerusalem ALWAYS roll over on command and retreat when their god in Washington calls.
The same failure they made with Hezbollah in 2006 and the worthless UN resolution 1701 which was supposed to halt their re-arming and did not, Israel repeats again.
