Thanks for comment on the issue of Metzitzah – I researched and wrote on this subject back in the 1970's – later published in the journal Proceedings of AOJS. The views among Orthodox authorities differ – here in the UK under the Initiation Society it is done with a tube. If you google this subject you will see there are major Rabbinical authorities who oppose Metz.. BePeh.

To those who feel the need to remind us that child abuse is "not a Jewish problem" or that it is a problem that should be addressed by all of society…This truism serves to mask the fact that any authoritarian religious culture — be it conservative Amish, Ultra-Orthodox Jewish, fundamentalist Christian, or extremist Muslim — is going to force children to suffer as members carry out their form of worship. Yes, of course child abuse is a national and international problem, but there is a certain kind of abuse and neglect — religious child maltreatment, as I call it — that is deserving of more scrutiny.

It is true that sexual abusers are deeply disturbed persons in need of help. This is true whether they are Jewish or of other religious and/or ethnic persuasions. There is always an impulse, among friends and colleagues, to help the abuser. But this must not be done at the expense of public safety (for future potential victims), nor at the cost of denigrating the immediate victim (who is so often only the most recent among a series of like victims, but the first so far to come forward with a complaint). As to "protecting" Jewish sex offenders, please do not neglect to notice that the victims are also Jewish (in almost every case). Do the victims not also deserve protection? And if Jewish abusers deserve protection, do not non-Jewish perpetrators of such crimes also deserve such protection? These are difficult waters to navigate; it is a "new" problem for most persons of faith, at least many who have not been aware of the abuses until recent revelations. But it is a problem that persons of good will must confront honestly and ethically, with fairness for all and special favors for none.

Of course, people who abuse children should be locked up. In ANY community. Unfortunately, it is not a jewish problem, it is a difficult to solve, widespread problem and my compassion goes to those who suffer at the hands of criminals, be it christian, or jewish, or muslim, or communist ones.

I know jewish people who prtected their children from cutting. And some who are standing up and taking a stance to protect the vulnerable people in China. Dissidents who are imprisoned for opinions, for belief, for meditating and who are commercially robbed off their vital organs by the communist regime.
