I know of another family in Efrat that fosters kids, and one family that it started out just fostering, a baby, and they adopted him. He's a handful, and cute and smart as anything. The family is solid with the child, and it's a wonderful thing to see. And I'm his BEST friend, too…..

Nice piece and congratulations on your forever family! My SIL encounters this all the time with her daughter, adopted from Korea. Recently a woman asked if she was "real" or adopted, to which my SIL answered, "both".

If I'm my (adoptive) children's "real" mother, then why don't they have to sit shiva for me? Why can't I be alone with my little boy; why should that raise yichud issues?
