We are all "personally affected." I am sorry for your loss. And I agree, Sandy Hook can never be okay. Just like the loss of your dad can never be okay. And I hesitate to write this because I know it can be taken in two very different ways but I offer it in hopes that you take it as gently as I intend it and that it can someday perhaps provide some solace, even if it fails to on first reading: it isn't that he didn't understand that you would be there for him, that he could lean on you, that you would ease his pain. It is you that do not understand that you couldn't be there for him, that he couldn't lean on you, that you couldn't ease his pain.

The majority of people don't want answers because they would have to jettison the false foundations they have built their lives on, the moral relativism that totally rejects the reality of judging between good and evil.
Those who want to know why will know why.
You touched on it; 'I have some idea of what my dad’s life was like, about what demons plagued him'…
Our life is a daily battle between good and evil, the destroying demons are extremely busy and successful in today in this nation which has turned it's back on God.
If we choose to be captains of our own destiny and fate, whether it is trusting in the medical system, glocks and bushmasters, government, police, ourselves to save us instead of trusting in God and his saving power we will fail as Adam and his mother failed. Alone they were no match for the crafty destroyer haSatan.
In Messiah Jesus our Passover lamb he is defeated.
God is the judge and his word shines a light on the darkness that has enveloped America which has become extremely tolerant of evil and the darkness that never gives us answers.
I choose not to walk in the darkness and that is why the light of God's truth gives me answers.
