There are five questions I have for Dov Lipman.
1. what do you think the Halachic guidelines of conversion should be? Considering you are a Rabbi and have vocally disagreed with the rules of conversion here in Israel, I would love to hear your Halachic opinion instead of your plagiarized claims. (Word for word from Amsalem's article in JP) One who serves in the IDF shoudl receive automatic conversion?
2. What is Racism? Where did Shas say Jewish Russians or any Russians are bad. Are their different races here?
3. How can you speak about Jewish law when you copied an article almost word for word without giving credit to the original author?
4. Should Israel convert someone because their father is Jewish without any intent from them to actually keep Jewish tradition? How about if they are converting to get married or how about if they are converting to get citizenship? Your article was a big smoke screen with absolutely no answers. So you don't like Shas, good! neither do I but your racist claims are ridiculous and being used as your ticket to get on the "let's bash" the religious bus.
5. I also spent time fighting for Soviet Jewry and believe their coming home is a miracle BUT that has nothing to do with the fact that tens of thousands have joined the Aliyah who are NOT Jewish and without a proper conversion we will massive assimilation in Israel. Instead of blowing smoke how about tell is what you are suggesting? Everyone serving in the army receive an automatic conversion? Does that include our Druze friends?

I am as far from Shas as you can imagine but the way Yesh Atid has been behaving and Dov Lipman's defense of this party is a total enigma to me.

I am just sad Dov didn't join the lets bash Bennet's party. I was actually hoping to hear what he has to say when Yair Lapid says to Chilonim that Naftali is tricking them and the real home for Chilonim is Yesh atid.

these are the word for word or nearly word for word copied paragraphs.

from the JPost article by Haim Amsalem from 2011:

"Rabbi Tzadok Hacohen Rabinowitz of 19th-century Lublin, Poland, explains that Isaiah referred to zera Yisrael when he described the “lost ones” who would rejoin the Jewish people through conversion upon our return to our homeland."

from Times of Israel article by Dov Lipman:

"Rabbi Tzadok Hacohen Rabinowitz of 19th-century Lublin, Poland, explains that Isaiah referred to these “zera Yisrael” when he described the “lost ones” who would rejoin the Jewish people through conversion upon our return to our homeland."

Amsalem

The greatest of rabbis never demanded this. The Talmud clearly requires only that we teach conversion candidates “some lenient and some strict commandments.”.

Lipman:

"The Talmudic sages never demanded this. The Talmud clearly requires only that we teach conversion candidates “some lenient and some strict commandments” prior to accepting them for conversion."

Amsalem

"The candidates in question agree to fast on Yom Kippur, to refrain from eating leavened bread on Pessah, to recite the Kiddush prayer and light the candles on Shabbat night, and for those in the IDF, to risk their lives to protect the Jewish state (what greater mitzva can there be?). The classic texts are replete with sources permitting the conversions of these zera Yisrael immigrants based on their intention to observe these basic commandments, especially in light of the fact that we should be proactively seeking them out for conversion."

Lipman

These immigrants from the former Soviet Union who want to convert agree to fast on Yom Kippur, to refrain from eating leavened bread on Passover, to recite the Kiddush prayer and light the candles on Shabbat night, and for those in the IDF, to risk their lives to protect the Jewish state (what greater mitzvah can there be?). The classic texts are replete with sources permitting the conversions of these zera Yisrael immigrants based on their intention to observe these basic commandments.

(these are literally word for word).

Amsalem:

One additional issue demands that we convert these immigrants immediately. If we don’t allow them to convert, these immigrants are going to marry our children anyway. They grow up together, go to grade school together, serve in the army together, study in university together, and thousands will inevitably choose to spend their lives together. And then, in the coming decades, Israel will be ripped apart with disputes regarding which citizens are Jews and which are not. Non-Jewish children will be raised as Jews, but will not be recognized as Jews by the rabbinate or the state.

Lipman

One additional issue demands that we convert these immigrants immediately (and flies in the face of Shas, who blame everyone but themselves for intermarriage and assimilation in Israel.) If we don’t allow them to convert, these immigrants are going to marry our children anyway. They grow up together, attend grade school together, serve in the army together, study in university together, and tens of thousands will inevitably choose to spend their lives together. And then, in the coming decades, Israel will be ripped apart with disputes regarding which citizens are Jews and which are not. Non-Jewish children will be raised as Jews, but will not be recognized as Jews by the rabbinate or the state.

Amsalem

True leadership demands that a problem be solved before it even arises, and in our current circumstance, that means relying on those valid and lenient opinions to convert these hundreds of thousands of immigrants.

As a Torah-observant Jew who considers Maran HaGaon HaRav Ovadia Yosef shlita as one of the greatest Torah scholars of our generation, the way in which fellow Jews regularly address him, as well as fellow observant Jews, online is NOT something which we should be celebrating. B"H for good humor...

Racist, anti-semitic eugenicists do not want for Jewish people (according to halakha, whether born or converted leshem shemayim) to marry one another. They want for Jewish people to marry "Aryan" people who are not Jewish halakhically, as they view Jews as genetically and intellectually inferior, and children born of mixed marriages with "Aryan" people who are not Jewish halakhically genetically and intellectually superior.

This could mean that your son, or your daughter, may have a very, very difficult time finding a Jewish suitor, because there are forces at work which are actively trying to prevent them from marrying a fellow Jew...especially a fellow Jew who does not "look white" or "look European/Asian"...

Jewish people, and especially Jewish people of color, are finding it more and more difficult to marry another Jewish person today, so that they may have children, and continue on their family lines into the next generation in a Jewish home, according to Torah, so that Jewish tradition may be preserved...Some are not marrying, are not having children, which is, effectively, sterilization ~ a tool used by eugenicists throughout history to destroy those whom they deem to be genetically and intellectually inferior.

The Jewish birthrate in every country around the world, with the exception of Israel (B"H!), is negative today...That is a fact. No exaggeration.

They want for Jewish people to marry "Aryan" people who are not Jewish halakhically, as they view Jews as genetically and intellectually inferior, and children born of mixed marriages with "Aryan" people who are not Jewish halakhically genetically and intellectually superior.

This could mean that your son, or your daughter, may have a very, very difficult time finding a Jewish suitor, because there are forces at work which are actively trying to prevent them from marrying a fellow Jew…especially a fellow Jew who does not "look white" or "look European/Asian"…

Jewish people, and especially Jewish people of color, are finding it more and more difficult to marry another Jewish person today, so that they may have children, and continue on their family lines into the next generation in a Jewish home, according to Torah, so that Jewish tradition may be preserved…Some are not marrying, are not having children, which is, effectively, sterilization ~ a tool used by eugenicists throughout history to destroy those whom they deem to be genetically and intellectually inferior.

The Jewish birthrate in every country around the world, with the exception of Israel (B"H!), is negative today…That is a fact. No exaggeration.

I would also like to express my extreme displeasure with the very first sentence of Dov Lipman's latest anti-Shas post "I am embarrassed with my country" - this reminds me of how often politicians and media jump to condemn Israel for all manner of things and publicly acclaim our failings...so that when Israel's justice system (or army investigations) react properly - the damage has been done. The ad was found to be inappropriate (to be honest, I didn't even look at it because I am as disgusted with Shas as I am with Yesh Atid) and been banned. But thanks to articles like this one and it now being posted to YouTube, the very image of Israel that Dov Lipman says shames him - is now, to his credit, being applied to Israel and spread. I am not Shas. Shas does not speak for me and whatever stupid election ads they create speaks ONLY about them and NOT about Israel.

If you are truly "embarrassed" by your country, Dov, than you do us a great disservice and ignore the amazing things done. One stupid ad embarrasses you? Why can't you just say things like "what idiot thought this would garner them votes?" You have no right, in the name of Orthodox Jews (or Israelis) to suggest that this ad speaks for anyone except one party (at most) and more likely, one less than intelligent person who thinks he knows how to communicate and a photographer. I notice also, that you have changed the title from yesterday. I'm glad you did - if there is shame to be had, it is not your right to put it on "us."
