I enjoyed your post, which very nicely captures the spirit of election day and snow days in Israel. I am forced to point out a small error, however: The talmudic tractate Ta'anit does *not* list days on the Jewish calendar on which it is forbidden to fast. The work that does contain such a list is Megillat Ta'anit, an early, pre-mishnaic composition:

Deena, such a nice post! In Israel there are so many things that divide us and yet, you don't need to be of a specific belief, age or background to be able to play in the snow. It is a truly unifying experience. And the voting, you just need to be an Israeli citizen and to believe in democracy. Two beautiful and unique experiences. We definitely needed them badly!
