Even though I live in Israel, when voting in American elections I vote as an American–over the years both parties have been stalwart supporters of Israel, so this is not a factor. Since America grants me the right and privilege to vote there, I feel an obligation to vote based on the issues concerning America.

I voted for President Obama. The economy has improved: job and employment figures, consumer confidence, the housing situation, Wall Street numbers, etc. Not enough and not fast enough…well, that of course is debatable but we are a people who see life through eyes of instant gratification. Many times that isn't possible. Time and patience may be required.

President Obama has supported social issues with which I agree, from gay and women's rights to national health care to education. That the budget and debt crisis must be dealt with is a given, and the president's approach of cutting spending and raising taxes, predominantly on wealthier Americans, seems the way to go.

My opposition to Mr. Romney is based on who he is and the party to which he belongs. His remaking of himself and his changing positions, depending on circumstances, has convinced me that he is an excellent salesman but not a leader. The lies and deceit that have come out of his mouth and his campaign have brought a generally repulsive political activity to new depths of bad behavior. Perhaps the one true insight into Mr. Romney's character and perspective was the candid exposure of his "47%" comments. My feeling is that a President Romney would be beholding to his party's extreme wing and the big-money folks who contributed so largely to his and other Republican races.

But two issues that bother me the most and reflect greatly on the character of Mr. Romney and the GOP are the racial slurs and voter suppression efforts. While Trump, Coulter, Palin, and Sununu have insulted the president in the basest way, Mr. Romney and Mr. Ryan remain silent. While officials on the state and local levels and in his own campaign try to suppress voting rights in order to rig the election, Mr. Romney and Mr. Ryan remain silent. Not only are these GOP onslaughts reprehensible, but if Romney should win would send a terrible message to all Americans: you can say whatever you want, do whatever you want, winning is all that counts. Put Israel aside for the moment. Obama has been an economic disaster. If interest rates move up even a little we're screwed. Obama care is killing job creation. And the borders are open.
