Every *fact* cited by Daniel Levy about Otzma is true. If you have a different perspective, then by all means elaborate. I am if nothing, open-minded and I for one would love to see how anyone positively spins the words and actions of guys like Ben-Ari and Eldad.

As for Hanan Zoabi, the Supreme Court's decision was exactly correct. To whatever extent Zoabi broke a law (and she never landed in Gaza and the "humanitarian" aid, as it were, carried by the flotilla was offered to Gaza by Israel) she benefits from the same parliamentary immunity given to all MKs. If you're going to punish Zoabi then you may as well punish Bennet for implying that soldiers ought to disobey orders. Just as I disagree with Bennet, I disagree with pretty much anything Zoabi believes in, however, both are duly elected members of the Knesset and ought to have the same ability to express their opinions that I have. As for accusations of treason that you are leveling against Zoabi, "treason" is a legal term and since the Attorney General hasn't charged Zoabi with acts of treason then we can't declare her acts treasonous - or no more treasonous than suggesting that Israeli soldiers not follow orders.

Of course all this pre-supposes an interest in maintaining Israel's Democratic identity. That may not be a priority for some and if so kindly disregard my comments. Otherwise Daniel has presented a very good overview of the post-election climate, even though I don't necessarily agree with all his analysis.

Daniel, just a few points and since it's right before Shabbat, I'll be brief: You neglected to point out that since Likud-Beitenu was initially perceived to be an overwhleming winner in the elections, many voters felt they had elbow space to defect somewhat without harming the outcome for Likud. This in no way means that the Israeli voter cares less about security issues than the price of croutons. To make such a statement is a tad simplistic.

In addition, many Likud voters were upset with the Likud-Beteinu merge, and genuine nationalist right wingers especially among the religious do not believe Avigdor Leiberman to be an authentic right-winger and therefore many votes were likewise lost to Likud-Beitenu for this reason. By the same token, A good deal of Russians defected from Leiberman due to the merge as well.

Now, to laud the fact that the Supreme court allowed for Zoabi, who has proven to be nothing less than a traitor to Israel, to Stand in the elections is not a "triumph of democracy" but rather, a travesty. Allowing traitors to be active in the Knesset is pure folly. To actively participate in the Marvi Marmara against "her own country" to actively support Hamas who WE ARE AT WAR WITH, is not as you put it, merely "controversial" but outright traitorous. If you, Daniel, do not believe that siding with one's country's enemy is not traitorous, then pray tell, what is?
And lastly, your accusations against members of Otzma for racism and inciting violence seems like you lifted them straight from the HaAretz newspaper or Al Jazeera. I wonder if you bothered to question the members of Otzma before presenting them in such a heinous and biggoted fashion...
