Since 1801 the motto of the London Stock Exchange is “My word is my bond” where indeed deals are made without documents and a simple hand-shake suffices.  The world would be a much better place if a handshake and one’s word is kept – Of course, the concept of a politician keeping their word is laughable worldwide.

However, in Israeli politics there are at least two men who keep their word – As Prime Minister Netanyahu has learned.  Thank you to Yair Lapid of Yesh Atid and Naftali Bennett of Bayit Yehudi for being men of their word. Bennett and Lapid made a pact to unite in negotiations, and as they said “We keep our word. A promise is sacred. We will keep it.”   And they have.

Post-election, a government hasn’t been formed Israel because these two political new-comers banded together and decided to create a pact in order to effect real change in the State of Israel.  They have stood firm against parties with no ideology other than power and money and triumphed in a major way as men of honor.

Indeed as I predicted on March 2nd, Netanyahu has had to cry uncle and give in to Bennett & Lapid.  Even in 2013, there is honor to giving someone your word and keeping it.  It is a great lesson for men everywhere to learn.

Now in the last hours of negotiations, Netanyahu is trying to weasel away from his previous promise to appoint Bennett & Lapid as Deputy Prime Ministers, but it is a no-go.  Bayit Yehudi and Yesh Atid have refused to return to the negotiating table and told Netanyahu – keep your word.

It is honorable, decent and shows integrity to keep your word.  It is refreshing and should be admired, wherever one stands on the political spectrum.

Thank you Naftali Bennett and Yair Lapid.
