We don't need to change the Palestinians into judeophiles. Look at it this way: the French hate the Germans and the Germans despise the French and there is no love lost between either of them and the Brits. Yet, after centuries of warfare, these European powers live in harmony with each other because all three are genuine democracies with all the freedoms and the magnificent parliamentary inertia this entails. Israel does not need a lovefest with the Palestinians in order to bring peace between the two. All that's required is that the future Palestinian state become a bona fide democracy; I am sure that was invisaged by the November 1947 UN resolution. I believe it is not impossible for an Arab state to become a democracy.

And with the benefit of hindsight, didn't we already try talking with them and didn't the direct result of these wonderful talks and "peace" agreements, get us into this "cycle" of voilance? As a member of the "intelligence" community, perhaps you can enlighten us all Mr Shahaf? When will the so called "peace" camp be held accountabe for their treason and criminal activity?

…..Bibi places his desire to be "loved" by the international "community" over Israel's interests and security. If following the "moral" "ethical" and "legal" standards of the EU, Russia and China is rally about justice, ethics and morality, then you Yael, will be demanding that Russia, Spain, France the UK and China all withdraw from territories that they all occupy respectively. As a matter of fact, alll of these countries have a less legitimate right to territories that they currently occupy than Israel's right to Judea and Samaria- so if one was to follow their logic and your own, then they would have withdrawn from all of their colonies a long ttme ago. In addition, the benefit of hindsight has taught us that every time Israel caves in to "international" pressure, give away land and sign "peace" treaties, this is followed by more voilence, war and wi Israel being more isolated internationally and less secure. But of course, the international "community" – the same "community" that appoints countries like Qadaffi's Libya to chair the human rits council and Iran and Saudi arabia to chair the UN women's rights committee- can dictate what is morally right and wrong. Anyone who disagrees is automaltically "anti peace," "hard line," "racist" and or "radical…" since you work in communications, Yael, Orwellian newspeak will be your forte.

Bibi is actually worse, ad as you rightly pointed out, is a demagogue. He will talk tough to get re- elected and win the trust of Israelis but will then cave in and do the bidding of the international "community." Michael, do tell me how to change our opponents into peaceloving judeophiles. Since I guess that you don't have an answer to that, we'll have to talk to murderers. By the way, I don't know if you are aware of that, most of them actually aren't murderers and some murderers would be considered "freedom fighters" by others. Some of us however, might be considered by others murderers. So I guess, all things considered, it would be quite natural if we would talk to them since that's the only way we will ever get out of this vicious circle. Unless you believe that we can go on like this forever, doing what we do best, ignore reality.

I think she could be a speech writer for Barak, Livni or Olmert. Another one who ignores the elephant in the room. That being that there is no peace process. How could any rational being be expected to negotiate anything with parties who want only your destruction ? And are not shy about stating it publicly. I like that Bibi is finally stopping the (not so) merry go round that this mentality perpetuates. If moral equivalency is going to dictate this process, it will go nowhere. Until the EU, US, Quartet & all other players recognize reality & call out the pals on their treachery, we can expect more rockets (only more improved ones), more retaliations…until one day they go too far & force Israel to destroy them. Theres no point trying to appease the unappeasable. Not even for brownie points with all those who think they have a right to meddle in Israeli affairs. The US may opt for a kinder gentler (read weaker) approach in world affairs…to their future & possibly current detriment. Israel can't afford to.
