I think a fair analysis would have to conclude that Abbas isn't willing to deal with Netanyahu unless Israel adopts the conditions Abbas claims were made by Olmert. It isn't Netanyahu who is to blame but Abbas and in part Olmert, for making concessions well beyond what the public would accept. The tragedy of the Israeli left is that they have progressively fed an Arab addiction to concessions and they are unwilling to abandon that fantasy now. If the left could sell a peace that doesn't include mass evictions of Israelis and wholesale destruction of thriving communities then there could be peace. Barring that nothing will happen.

There is a "third way" to look at things, Mr. Ruby (beginning as you did with the Prime Minister's Bar Ilan speech)...which involves the application of the "Occam's Razor" Principle (the popular version of it) to the situation...but, my best guess is--when all is said and done (and "the last dog is dead," as they used to say where I grew up)--that while MUCH will have been "surmised"--LITTLE or NONE will ever be "proven"...EVEN via the future review by historians--BECAUSE you know what is said about "history."
