Gaza truce crumbles as rockets hit Israel, fighting breaks out in Rafah | The Times of Israel   ‘IDF death toll at 61; delegations to head for Cairo; US slams ‘indefensible’ Israeli strike; PA could press war crimes charges; spate of injured in rocket attacks; former IDF intel chief says Hamas has lost; Gaza officials say death toll over 1,400’

Well, that truce didn’t last very long. I’m not sure it could be said to have even started.

After so many dead and injured, when such massive amounts of destruction have already spread ruin across the land and with calls for a ceasefire echoing up and down every political, religious and humanitarian spectrum, it’s still a little hard to see why it didn’t take hold.

Or has the cycle simply entered that phase where, no matter what scale of depredation and suffering is present, the fight goes on remorselessly, so much having already been lost – and gained – for it to be otherwise?

But then, how can it ever be made into something ‘otherwise’?  – ‘ for those of us with better things to do.’
