Israel, Hamas agree to open-ended Gaza ceasefire | The Times of Israel  ‘Islamist terror group declares victory, celebrations erupt in Palestinian enclave; Israel to ease blockade, allowing aid into Gaza’

So, yet another truce has arrived. Not a very original event these days but I feel sure it must be a welcome one nevertheless, especially after seven weeks of near ceaseless conflict.

But this conflict has become so predictable of late that there’s hardly any entertainment value to be had from it at all. For one reason or another, Hamas attacks Israel, then Israel responds but in a more spectacular fashion and the rest is the usual roller coaster ride towards some inevitable climax. Thereupon, both sides agree to be calmed down by outside mediation and hold their fire until the next round of hostilities. This takes place at some future date and venue, usually determined by whatever happens thereafter.

You know, guys, it wouldn’t hurt to introduce an element of real excitement into these proceedings. Some honest-to-goodness, nail-biting stuff that has everyone on the edge of their seats and rooting for their favourite team.  – ‘ for those of us with better things to do.’

So, let’s all try for a result here, shall we? 66 years is just too long for a match that should have ended sometime in the last century, not this one.
