If I understand it correctly, large numbers of Israeli Jews and those throughout the diaspora may, even now, be busily searching the home, clearing away whatever can be classified as ‘Chametz’ and, in the process, giving the place what might be termed a very thorough spring clean.

It occurs to me that, with this much attention to cleaning and the removal of items now deemed a form of household contaminant, what’s going on here might very well be extended to a property of considerably greater extent and importance. When was the last time that the entire State of Israel, the actual and titular home to millions of Jews the world over, received its own pre Passover brush-up and makeover?

Even the gentlest touch of the feather duster at this time might not go amiss, especially when such an old and venerable structure has gone without much being done to it in decades. At the very least, a new coat of paint could make all the difference.
