If you think an outsider can come in and give "everybody involved just one good, hard push." you clearly have no idea about middle eastern mentality. Push an Arab and see what he will do to you. Push me and my brother will defend me.
I've read this point before in response to suggestions for peace in the middle east don't exist. The two parties are reproaches as schoolchildren who are not working and playing well together are. If only they were not so entrenched in harmful behavior , not so stubborn, communication and empathy would be possible and peace would occur.

I wish I lived in the world you describe where "All you need is love" and evil doesn't exist.
I don't. Do you true believe that the native Americans nations lost their countries because of lousy communication skills or that the blacks remained slaves for lack of empathy. The history of the world is filled with nations that no longer exist because another nation had more people, money, better armies and more greed. Alexander the Great had no interest in communication when he conquered the majority of the known world. Hitler had no interest in communication when he set out to conquer the word, make it Judenrein and Romany-rein. Stalin is another example.

Communicating with people under these conditions is the worst tactic. The enemy will always want to communicate, (especially if his communication can include a few concessions,) He will always make promises, state that his goals are limited, that he wants peace and usually tell his own people something else. Hitler was a master of this.
Even though his endgame was ;there in black and white in his Mein Kampf, the allies bet on communication and lost. The Jews decided his ideas were too off the wall to happen,
Looking back clearly he meant what he said. It is difficult to not admire his genius in the way he played the peace game

I would be interested in any specific suggestions you have about the events discussed in this article. The dispute is old hat to you. I don't like it either. The solution of let's all communicate and empathize is old hat to those of us who have to run to bomb shelters and blame us for the missles we "force " them to fire

Secretary of Defence Panetta implored the Israelis "just to get back to the bargaining table" with the Palestinians. It's an example of American simplicity toward the intractable problems of The Middle East.

And your statement, John, is in the same vein:

"Then hasn't the time come for both sides to move on past this massive blockage in their respective journeys through life and emerge from the experience better and wiser than they were before?"

The Arabs (including the so-called Palestinians) have no intention of moving on, emerging or being any wiser in this conflict. Their aim is the destruction of Israel. And any pretty phrasology of yours, Panetta or other Americans just misses that point.

The day of the dhimmi Jew has returned where the secular, faith challenged leaders of Israelnever miss an opportunity to reward the bad behavior of their Palestinian jihad masters and abuse fellow Jews who are faithful to God's command to rebuild in all of Judea and Samaria only because the false gods Israel's faith challenged leaders serves, the US, RU, UN tell them to do so.

So, the conflict reigns supreme, the struggle continues ever onward and, for all the wrong reasons, the price still has to be paid in blood.

Neither side can move towards the other's point of view because to do so would risk invalidating their own.

Then hasn't the time come for both sides to move on past this massive blockage in their respective journeys through life and emerge from the experience better and wiser than they were before?

And, maybe, all that's ever been needed for that emergence is to give everybody involved just one good, hard push.

After 65 years of almost total impasse, there must be many who would welcome such a new take on so very old and obdurate a subject.
