An amazingly brave article. We in the United States have not fought a war completely since WWII either. The Israelis of 1948 also knew how to fight a war. Harry Truman would not have been allowed to decide to drop the atomic bombs over Japan if he were president today. THe Israelis are no longer strong warriors either. Both countries have this fake political correctness that has taken many lives. Harry Truman saved millions of American lives by dropping those bombs and ending the war. THe "politically correct cowards" do not seem to realize that all it accomplishes is that we are seen as weak. Get in there and get the job done, for g-d's sake and I mean just that. Being nicey, nicey gets you no place and loses lives, ours as well as theirs!

When the hareidim are finally conscripted into the IDF they should spearhead all ground invasions…and then we shall see how much the 'pals' learn from the total war that people who hate them can unleash…

Really? Just so the arabs can say "it's a jewish conspiracy to destabilise our nation"? Israel very much believes in freedom and indeed arab Israelis are as free as nowhere else in the middle east. Why, according to you, Israel is supposed to be in charge for the wellbeing of egyptians who fanatically hate Israel is beyond me. Your comments just confirm my doubts about the possibility of negotiating an equitable solution with the other side. It's better to do things unilaterally. And Mr Goldberg here should be really worried that you're his new sidekick.

Marc, thanks for your comments, but you are in incorrect. We do not assert that people should just be bombed and we even mentioned in the article the problem of people understanding that as our opinion. I will give you an example of what we are talking about – which is one of many.
Our point is clear: when fighitng a war, first the country should think about its goals, protecting its citizens and ways to accomplish it and only later on the list should possibly moral considerations be taken into account. To give you a feel for what i am talking about take the following example: In the beginning of the second wave of Palestinian violence in 2000. The Palestinians attacked Kever Yosef in Shechem. During the attack one soldier bled to death as the IDF was unwilling to take the rescue measures necessary. Why not? Kever Yosef is in the middle of Balata, a refugee camp on the Eastern side of Shechem. To conduct a rescue operation, the IDF would have had to dealt with angry protesters/rioters/civilians who were surrounding the entrance and road that led to the tomb. Had they conducted the operation, they would have probably killed many civilians, since these were not exactly people who would move out of the way willingly. Because of this consideration, the IDF did not conduct the rescue operation and Madhat Yousef – a druze border guard policeman – bled to death inside. When I say bled to death, he didnt die quickly! The fact that the IDF didn't rescue him is not only immoral but a super desecration of Gds name. Furthermore, its decision to pull the troops out of shechem that night – troops that had been there for YEARS – so as not to have to deal with the civilian rioters, no doubt encouraged the Palestinians that an uprising similar to what had been staged in Shechem that day could conitnue and be successful. And the rest – more than 1000 Israelis dead and more than 4000 Arabs dead since – is history

It is precisley because the IDF has done such a good job in defending Israel that Iran, Syria, Egypt and Hezbollah in Lebanon are reluctant to attack. To carpet bomb the Gaza strip as a solution would most likely so outrage their populations that they would be compelled to respond. As of now the only Muslim country with nuclear weapons is Pakistan but you'd most likely intensify the arms race. Every act has consequences not just for Israelis but for their supporters as well.
