I have written previously about an American fellow named Jonah who lives near Hartford, the insurance capitol of the USA. I never met him and assuredly have no desire to ever meet him but I “know” him only through his vitriolic comments about us. I don’t know if he hates all Jews but he certainly hates Israel. He is a best friend of the Arabs whom he accuses us for their poverty and despair.
He is sympathetic to Muslims and is unwilling to realize and/or to understand the history of the civilizations and cultures of the Middle East thousands of years before the birth of Mohammed and the rise of Islam. Chief among those cultures were the people, language and literature of the Jews, the children of Israel.
So, all that is wrong in the world, according to him, is the fault of Israel. He would possibly say: “They bombed Nagasaki and Hiroshima, killing tens of thousands of innocent Japanese enemies.” or “They committed the massacre at Mi Lai, killing hundreds of innocent Vietnamese civilians.” or “They destroyed the unity of Iraq by killing the innocent and great leader of his oppressed people, Sadam Hussein.” or “They don’t believe in Santa Claus.” or “They killed John F. Kennedy and Martin Luther King, Jr.” And more nonsense.
But he needs someone to blame, someone to be the scapegoat for the evils in the world. So why not us? Christians have been blaming us for centuries. Only in recent years have they apologized for two thousand years of their anti-Jewish crimes, thanks to the wisdom and kindness of some very decent Popes. Apologies accepted !
In short, all the troubles on the earth are the fault of us in Israel. So he believes.
He probably regrets Harry Truman’s decision to grant us recognition and probably agreed with Bess who vowed never to let a Jew enter her house. And no Jew ever did, not even Harry’s business partner. Maybe no Jew ever entered Jonah’s home either.
He no doubt approved Haj Amin al-Husseini, Hitler’s Mufti ally, for the riots, pogroms, wanton killings of Jews from 1922 – 1947 in pro-Arab controlled British Palestine.
Did anyone hear any regret from him last week when one of his Arab “friends” stabbed to death a rabbi who was reciting his prayers in a synagogue in Tel-Aviv? No doubt he only groaned loud sighs of grief for the “poor down-trodden” Arab murderer, a waiter working on a permit in a Tel-Aviv restaurant where he picked up a knife to be his instrument of death.
There are sadly many Jonahs in the world. Too many, in fact. And it is usually at this season of the year that they come out of the cracks in the walls like insects to condemn us for the trial and crucifixion of a Jewish self-proclaimed messiah.
Not the pagan Romans who committed the act according to their legal code, but the Israelis (Jews of Judea at that time) who rejected all false messiahs and all those among their own people who abandoned the laws of Moses and the God-given Torah.
All this in violation of the Jewish death codes listed in the Bible which so many Jonahs never read. Crucifixion is prohibited !!!
These blind people, most who have never even read the twenty-four books of the Hebrew Bible (they call it the Old Testament to distinguish it from the New), are completely ignorant of God’s promises made to the children of Israel (not to the children of Ishmail or Esau).
Ishmail went to Egypt, home of his mother Hagar. Esau’s sons were given Moab, Edom and Rabbat-Ammon (Amman) which are today’s Jordan.
Jacob’s twelve sons were given the land of Israel. All of it. Israel belongs only to the Jews. Others can live in it but Israel is and always will be the Jewish Homeland whether others like it or not. We frankly couldn’t care about their opinions.
It is their blindness which prevents them from seeing the truth and unfortunately they prefer to live in the darkness without ever seeing and admitting the light of truth into their sad lives. More the pity !
Happily, there are millions of decent Evangelical Christians around the world who love us, who visit us often, who support our cause, who defend us against the anti-Zionists and anti-Israelis and anti-Semites of whom there are far too many.
Our efforts at dialogue should be increased among these, our proven friends, while ignoring those who hate us and who walk in darkness.
Imagine the degree of their hatred….. if the chimneys of their homes were stuffed up so badly that poor jolly St. Nick (aka Santa Claus) was not able to squeeze down with his bag of toys for good girls and boys, they would blame it on the Israelis for sabotaging the festival of ho-ho-ho, peace on earth, goodwill to men.
The Arabs can have their good friends like the Jonahs of the world, while we Jews in Israel cherish our dear friends who have not forsaken us.
As stockings are soon to be hung by the chimneys with care, we Israelis hope they will be filled with a more positive understanding of history.. our Jewish and Israeli history… past and present. That will be our season’s gift to them.
Happy holidays to them and “to all, a good-night”.
