As with most left-leaning intellectuals, he seems to have the assumption that there is another option. He assumes that there is something an Israeli government could do to properly appease the Arabs, short of national suicide. Myself and the majority of Israelis who support a right-wing block are not so naive anymore. Not after the Oslo debacle, which saw only increases in terrorism and Israeli dead. Not after we unilaterally pulled up 7,000+ Jews from their homes and evacuated every last Jew, soldier and civilian, from Gaza and got a avowedly genocidal terrorist government and rockets on our cities in return. So yeah, Bibi's Likud is 'opposed to peace,' in the same sense that most scientists are opposed to warp drive. That is, since it's not possible, at least right now, we need to figure out other modes of transport.
