The Sham of “Anti-Zionism.”

Over the past few days, a scandal has broken at Durban University of Technology in Durban, South Africa. Student groups, namely Student Representative Council (SRC) and the Progressive Youth Alliance, issued a demand that all Jewish students be forcibly deregistered. “We took the decision that Jewish students, especially those who do not support the Palestinian struggle, should deregister.”

Forcing all Jews to leave a university? That sounds eerily reminiscent of the stipulations laid out by the Nuremberg Laws of 1935.

The most sickening aspect of this repugnant action is that it’s under the guise of supporting the Palestinian people. Punishing all Jews at the university due to the actions of a nation which you find problematic makes about as much sense as forcing all Muslim students to leave because of the actions of ISIS.

Before I go further, I would like to take the opportunity to appreciate and commend Professor Ahmed Bawa, the Vice Chancellor and Principal of the DUT.Professor Bawa issued a strong condemnation, and flat out rejection of the demands, stating: “One of the demands on the memorandum was deregistration of Jewish students at DUT, to which my response was that this was outrageous, preposterous and a deep violation of our National Constitution and every human rights principle. No student at DUT will be discriminated against on the basis of religion, race, gender, political affiliation or sexual orientation.”

While the head of this institution certainly deserves a round of applause for his response, I think we need to be examining the vile ideology that’s causing these events to be commonplace, and accepted. Calls for Jews to be stripped of their rights, such as the right to an education. In Austria, a court ruled on Tuesday that calls to kill Jews are a legitimate form of protest against Israel.

Now, I support Israel, and stand firmly behind the country, but even if Israel were the most abhorrent state on the planet, it still doesn’t give anyone the right to target all members of a faith.

As stated earlier in this column, I’m sure all readers would – and rightly so,- find the concept of targeting all Muslims as a result of ISIS’s barbarism, truly abhorrent and revolting. Why is it okay then, to attack members of one of the most persecuted groups in the world, over the actions of a sovereign political state?

It’s not, it’s sickening, and I’m at the point where I can’t be silent any more. By and large, the “anti-Zionist” movement is nothing but a thinly veiled excuse for Jew Hatred.

I have proof of this. The BDS (Boycott, Divest, and Sanctions) page on Facebook has been perpetually silent when these acts of anti-Semitic hatred and violence occur. If they were really campaigning for the advancement of the Palestinian cause, they would swiftly and vehemently condemn these acts of pure, vicious Anti-semitism.
