For whatever large section of humanity it is, the Israelis will always be the guys in the black hats, figuratively speaking. And it makes no never mind how this perception has come about. Because that's how it is and how it has been for quite some time.

In the ongoing struggle between Israelis and Palestinians, far more Palestinians have been killed and maimed than has been the case with Israelis. Depending on your point of view, this can be attributed to the superior efficiency of the Israeli war machine or callous indifference toward the lives of people who just happened to be born on the 'wrong' side of the tracks. Either way, the natural inclination of those human beings not directly involved in the conflict will be to look with favour upon the 'underdog' and be less concerned with problems afflicting the more dominant members of society.

So, given this apparently set-in-stone propensity, what choices are available other than to continue on much as before. reinforcing whatever stereotypes are already in place and widening the gulf between them?

One answer might be to acknowledge these stereotypical images to a more marked degree.

Jews are renowned for being among the smartest people on the planet; a condition promoted by a lifestyle in which education and study are very much central themes. They can also be dismissive of other cultures and pedantic in an almost excessive manner.
Arabs are famed in the arts and sciences and their traditions of hospitality often shows them to be more tolerant of others than 'others.' They are given to overlooking that which should be condemned and condemning that which should be overlooked.

In many ways, they are both very much alike.

Well then, let's see if all their education and their traditions can accept this scenario:

It would be the smart thing to do; it would be the most hospitable thing to do. And, considering the deadlocked nature between Jews and Arabs in this matter, it may now be the only thing left to do.
