Thank goodness, the "peace industry" which blights the area like pawn shops and liquor stores, is shrinking. At least pawn shops don't kill anyone. Thanks to the peace industry, we are further away from peace than at any time since 1948. It is time that the "peaceniks" wean themselves from 1st class flights, fancy rooms at the King David and American Colony Hotels, lectures where the speakers are well paid to hear their own voices, and enjoy the benefits of honest labor. Everyone else is cutting back, why should you be exempt?

It is higly sensible to look squarely at reality and recognize the great distance and complexity that today prevent two states and peace and for old American hands starting some years ago with Aaron David Miller to judge and act accordingly. Everyone wants/needs a second act in their careers. That said, it is not sufficient to view the mounting obstacles and surrender a goal that is still essential to the stability of the Middle East and the world. The Arab revolution, the Iranian nuclear threat, the US withdrawl from Iraq and Afghanistan and the ascension of Islam all require a new era of agreement between Israelis and Palestinians and the concerted effort of the US, the EU, Russia, Egypt, Turkey, Saudi Arabia and others to quell regional hostility and initiate a peace agreement that caps the well and opens the region to a most necessary period of shared prosperity.

It's quite Zen to disengage from a mythical process. One must question the nature of the process you are disengaging from and whether there was ever really a peace process at all, like the tree that falls in the forest without you hearing it. The two-state solution was undermined from the beginning by a lack of Arab intent to abandon the one-state solution, evidenced by the incessant hate education in Arab schools, plus many other things. It's never all one-sided of course, but without an immediate let-up in self-defeating moves like the indoctrination of Arab kids to hate Jews the two-state solution was a dead duck from the start.
