We are all "people like us". All it takes is a bit of empathy. For the past 10 years we have added to our family a single woman (former babysitter from the States). She has no family in Israel apart from us and she *always* has a place at our table for holidays and simchot. Holidays are important times for family but you are free to make your family as inclusive as you want.

Xmas and new year have the highest suicide rates in "Christian " countries. U want to be with people for chag? There are lots of people, facebook sites, web sites etc where people are begging to invite you. U do not have to be alone, but you have to let someone know you don't want to be alone. This is one of the most hospitable countries in the world for Anglo Jews. Have u never heard the Jerusalem Joke " Hi, Shalom, you're new here, Where r u for Shabbas?, OK so what's your name?"

Lots of us "happily marrieds" dont have our kids with us, all over the world. Many if not most of us do NOT have all our grown up kids in the same country. Even when they're in the same city they sometimes cannot be together. We no longer live in family villages or ghettos. For good or bad.

I actually asked the woman in my company to write the piece for our newsletter out of respect for her, because I wanted the other religions who work with her to understand what her holiday experience was like here in Israel. I would never be condemning towards her about living here not as a Jew. Her husband agreed to travel with her to Holland in the future for Christmas because he saw how hard it was for her not to have a warm experience like she had back home.
I did not write this comment to condemn or judge her. I wanted to concur with Sarah that when you come from somewhere and are used to the traditions, you become very homesick for that experience when you are far away and I understand.

So I guess that is how other people in other religions feel about Jews living outside of Israel as well. "Let them go there (Israel). Let´s not get too carried away with political correctness(anti-semitism). They can come here, work here, have equal rights practice their own religion. But hell, don´t expect us to feel sorry for them(Jews) because their idolatrous festival is not worshipped here. That is the last straw(send all the Jews to Israel)" You should be careful about saying that because that is exactly how many Christians feel about Jews in USA, Europe, Canada, Australia, New Zealand. Do you really want all the Jews to have to move to Israel? I think any religion should be allowed to live anywhere in the minority. Israel has religious freedom don´t you? I am sure many Christians are saying "thank G-d we don´t have ****Kippur here". By the way I am not Christian but am a Jew.
