The United Nations is waging an outrageous campaign that questions the legitimacy of Israel’s existence at every turn with the aim of stealthily destroying the very moral foundations of the nation-state which it help created in 1948. The subtle indignities and extreme hatred against the Jewish state is in plain sight but ignored by everyone.
The election this month of the Islamic Republic of Iran to a top post on the UN Arms Trade Treaty conference has fundamentally transformed the United Nations into a deceptive elitist body of freaks, muggers and bullies whose efforts to promote peace are based on a set of lies and organized by nations who are themselves are guilty of the worst kinds of oppression.
For all its imperfections, the United Nations serve as a forum where sovereign states can come together to share burdens, address common problems and seize common opportunities. Overtime, the United Nations effectiveness and relevancy has been widely criticized because of lexical ambiguity, scandals and controversies surrounding the UN General Assembly and the UN Security Council.
Unfortunately, the United Nations has become ineffective by virtue of its inability to act and respond to prevent global crises in real time. Why? Because the veto power of the permanent members of the Security Council can stall or halt the operation of the United Nations.
Seriously, the United Nations has an urgent mandate to reform itself to restore its credibility by stopping unnecessary attacks on Israel and by denouncing any member states using the United Nations as platforms for propaganda.
Unless the United Nations recognizes the urgency of internal reforms and its deviant approach to the Arab-Israeli conflict, it won’t be able to promote lasting peace and security in the extremely volatile Middle Eastern cluster of conflicts. It is reasonable to assume that significant reforms of the United Nations would come about only if permanent members of the Security Council weed out hypocritical post-Cold war mentality and adhere to the ethics of the UN Charter.
To distract attention from its inaction to unrelenting attacks against the Jewish state, the United Nations has virtually gutted its credibility and effectiveness in settling major disputes amongst its member states. The record is clear and the reasons are surprisingly overwhelming. Here’s why:
UN Security Council has repeatedly condemned Israel
Interestingly, Israel which joined the United Nations in 1949 has never been elected to the UN Security Council. For decades, Israeli delegates to the United Nations have been treated to a sickening litany of anti-Semitic abuse at the General Assembly, in the UN Human Rights Commission and in the Security Council.
Since 1970, the United States has vetoed 32 Security Council resolutions critical of Israel, more than the total number of vetoes cast by all the other Security Council members. In fact, a third of all critical resolutions passed by the UN Human Rights Commission during the past 40 years have been directed exclusively at Israel.
For over 50 years, 82% of the UN General Assembly emergency meetings have been about condemning one state – Israel. “By way of comparison, there has not been a single resolution even mentioning the massive violations of human rights in China, Russia, North Korea, Cuba, Saudi Arabia, Syria, or Zimbabwe,” according to Robert Wistrich of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and head of the University’s Vidal Sassoon International Center for the Study of Antisemitism.
For instance, the UN sponsored conference held in Durban, South Africa in 2001 to combat racism ended up being a forum for world leaders to make various anti-Semitic statements. The entire conference was condemned by Wistrich calling it hateful, racist, and anti-Semitic.
In July 1976, UN Secretary General Kurt Waldheim “condemned Israel” for the violation of Ugandan sovereignty after Israeli commandos raided the Ugandan airport and rescued 102 hostages.
Alan Dershowitz, the Felix Frankfurter Professor of Law at Harvard Law School has accused the United Nations of allowing its refugee camps in the Palestinian territories to be used as terrorist bases.
Israel as racist, apartheid state
Whatever Israel do or strive to follow the highest standards of human rights, the United Nations exaggerated the Palestinian refugees suffering and repeatedly blames Israel about it. However, those restrictions are only imposed on those territories by Israel for reasons of security.
Meanwhile, the United Nations refuses to tell the world the truth about the root causes of Palestinian-Israeli conflict. Why combating injustices and economic disparities are so different in Islamist-run territories? Why does the UN portray Israel as racist, apartheid state when the enslaved victims of the Islamist Arabs abuse find solace and refuge in Israel? Why does the UN targets Israel while relatively ignoring the Islamic oppression of the Copts, the Christians in Iraq, Palestinian Territories, Nigeria, and Iran?
The mainstream media are also complicit in perpetuating anti-Semitism and anti-Zionism based on numerous reports of UN condemnations on alleged Israeli crimes and Palestinian suffering.
So far, the big lies against the Jews were carefully orchestrated in the United Nations. Ask any decent Arab Muslim refugees why they wanted to live in Israel rather than go back to the Islamist Arabs oppression, brutalization, demonization, and enslavement. Ask every Muslim in Ramallah in the West Bank why they prefer to live under Israel rather than Hamas or Fatah controlled Palestinian Authority.
In a similar manner, the Islamists continue denying the Jews their inherent right for sovereignty in their homeland and the United Nations questioning Israel’s legitimacy is not only discomforting but the height of absurdity.
Promoting a keen awareness for these issues that beset the United Nations, reforms will not come easy. The geopolitical paradigm dictates that this hypocrisy towards Israel diverts tremendous resources that are needed to solve much more urgent problems in the world at large.
As far as Israel is concerned, aliyah becomes meaningless when true Jews don’t have the courage to state publicly that Jerusalem is indeed the eternal capital of the Jewish people that includes Judea and Samaria. It is their historical, anthropological, geographical and biblical right and obligation to do so by simply telling the truth.
In this regard, it likely will not be possible to have peace without a balanced approach to the peace process taking into account the assimilation of Palestinian refugees, rectify the inequities and the sins of the past. On the contrary, it is not impossible to imagine a Middle East in peace, democracy and prosperity unless radical, fanatical and messianic Islamist states like Iran and Syria are contained or overthrown.
Finally, it is illogical and ridiculous for the United Nations to allow terrorist states to participate in human rights, international law and arms trade treaty conference. It is outrageously disturbing that by ignoring the UN Charter in the process to annoy Israel, it will only aggravate the problem. The challenge is to tackle the deeper causes of attacks on a single state and to prevent using the United Nations as a hub for Islamist propaganda.
