By the way Shawn, it might help if you would actually read the torah portion before writing your commentaries. Joseph clearly says that the events which led to his enslavement were brought about by God, therefore whatever Jacob and his brothers did was a result of God's influence. Hence Joseph did not arrive in Egypt because Jacob showed favoritism or because his brothers were jealous. The exact same explanation is given for Samson marrying a Philistine....God made him do it....

You know Shawn, the problem with your commentaries is that, by trying to make the Torah relevant to our every day lives, you totally ignore what is written in the Torah.
The story of Joseph is not about sibling rivalry, for centuries the rabbis have claimed that the Torah is the bread of life (furthermore, christians believe that the body of jesus was made of bread and he was the word of God). Hence, since Joseph's ONLY function in Egypt was to supervise wheat production and, even in modern times we ask: what is your field of knowledge?, this clearly indicates the story of Joseph is about the establishment of religious schools in Egypt. the torah says, pontiphar was a cook, joseph arrived with a spice caravan, the pharaoh's baker and wine steward were thrown in prison, the pharaoh's dreams were about food....

this is NOT the Farmer's Almanac Shawn!

Can you prove from the Torah that Judaism passes thru the mother? So far, not one single rabbi has been able to do so...Enter the $10,000 dollar Torah Challenge....

The issue here is: If the rabbis do not understand that Judaism does not pass thru the mother, what else don't they understand?
