maybe it was the fact that Ted required people to give to Israel to be considered Jewish that they found insulting. Can't do that with all the self-hating Jews in the audience like Tony Kushner and those Israeli filmmakers.

I could not agree less on several points. Many of the female stars were dressed like top of the range prostitutes, the antithesis of everything Judaism says about modesty. To then link the degrading of women with Jewish-controled Hollywood and support for Israel deeply offended me. Leave religion out of this show that will be viewed worldwide, including countries where conspiracy theories abound.

Everyone here is missing the point: "The Jews" does not mean Jewish individuals. It means "The Cabal", "The Learned Elders", "The Conspirators". In the mind of the viewer it is intended to mean that this evil international group , "The Jews", controls Hollywood to corrupt the mores and otherwise harm the Gentiles. "They" of course also control banking, politicians, education, art, medicine, physics, etc.. for the same evil, selfish purpose.

To give an analogy, it is great that the Jews win a disproportionate number of Nobel Prizes in Medicine. It is not great if "The Jews", "they", control Medicine in order for "them" to make all that money, by causing us to spend for unnecessary tests, unreasonable fees, etc..

In reality, the only true statement one can make about "The Jews" is that they are Jewish. Other than that, each one is a unique individual. Sadly, to millions worldwide, we are hated as though we are the Devil, and hated so much, that it is a good deed to murder a Jew. Seth MacFarlane is for me an 'honorary' Jew and he has poked some good fun at Jews in a similar vein in his Family Guy shows. At the Oscars he insulted everyone. He laid in to black people, he laid into Mel Gibson big time (and therefore arguably positioning Jews in a favourable light if we're going to argue in such an infantile manner), the Jewish jokes by Ted (aka MacFarlane himself) are a reflection of the casual bigotry in American society – he doesn't endorse it. He bursts people's pompous and self-righteous PC bubbles because he knows this is how people really think. I thought he was absolutely hilarious and it was easily the best Oscars I'd seen in years.

You are correct. Such comments, not funny at all, are dangerous and very damaging. People do stereotype Jews and always will – but why make matters worse? Anti-Semitism is far more prevalent now than in recent years and we should protest any manifestations as they occur.

Everyone seems to be missing the point here. The real issue is not that the bad jokes were made – and they were bad.The real issue is that the timing was bad. Jews are being once again subjected to anti-Semitic attacks in many countries. As a result, Jews are a lot more sensitive than they otherwise might have been about these so-called jokes – Jews are concerned about anti-Semitism and in that context those who protest are correct to do so. Jews do indeed make jokes about Jews and Jews laugh at the jokes. It is an age-old defence mechanism and it works for us. That however does not mean that brainless people who try to be funny and fail have the right to make vile remarks that are insulting at best and virulently anti-Semitic at worst. Those who see no wrong in this are themselves wrong and worse yet, delusional. They think that if we brush off the insult it does not exist. It is wrong and dangerous to assume this.

there was no reason to talk about Jews unless the academy was honoring the creation and founding of Hollywood. apart from that, hollywood's denizens are creepily silent and cowards when it comes to speaking out against jew haters and worldwide anti semitism. apparently, those who are jewish do not think it's about them. as did the germans in the thirties not think it was about Them.

Was damage and malice intended? Definitely malice intended and much damage too. Millions were watching, many of whom know Jews and about Jews from stereotypes like the ones the innocent bear reinforced and reminded all again that Jews control the Media etc, etc… So yes, there is a need and an obligation to report and denounce such unfunny jokes as "flagrant anti Antisemitism".
