What is Peace?
The definition of peace from Merriam Webster is:
a state of tranquility or quiet: such as
a : freedom from civil disturbance
b : a state of security or order within a community provided for by law or custom
A further definition is:
a : a state or period of mutual concord between governments
b : a pact or agreement to end hostilities between those who have been at war or in a state of enmity
Perhaps President Abbas needs to study these definitions to understand what Israel is expecting when he claims to the West that he wants peace. Threatening the president elect with “opening the gates of hell” if he moves the embassy to Jerusalem is not peace. Allowing a PLO member to proclaim that moving the embassy would be “a declaration of war against our people and our Arab and Islamic nation”, is not peace. Allowing a Fatah official to state that “transferring the American Embassy to Jerusalem will absolve us of all the agreements and turn Palestine into a war zone” is not peace.
A nation who wants peace must teach its people how to be peaceful.
Recently I watched a video of a kindergarten graduation celebration in Gaza. In this video, five year old children were dressed as Islamic Jihad terrorists in order to kill Israelis. They were practicing attacking an Israeli army base, kidnapping soldiers, shooting shoulder mounted mortars, planting bombs under Israeli tanks and being proud to kill Jews.
The Islamic Jihad announcer of the program was stating that they were a peaceful people who loved life and mankind. Yet they had to fight against the atrocious Zionists terrorists.
Teaching these children to hate at such a young age, is not setting the stage for peace.
Israel wants peace. Israelis want peace. They would love to put their weapons down and not have to send their own children to the army, in order to protect the nation.
The rhetoric coming out of the Palestinians’ mouths is pure hate.
President Abbas, if you truly want peace, you can make peace. You simply need to stop threatening violence against Israel for existing. It would be amazing if you could understand what peace looks like and that you can achieve it by stopping the hate.
Yesterday we honored Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in the United States. He was a role model for peace and compassion.
As Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. said, “Love is the only force capable of transforming an enemy into friend.”
“Every man must decide whether he will walk in the light of creative altruism or in the darkness of destructive selfishness.”
Isn’t it time to walk into the light President Abbas?
